Welcome to the of the 2019-20 school year. Many changes have occurred here at the Seminole Academy! We have welcomed a new principal, Mr. Matthew Lucas! I have the honor of teaching Third grade Resource Room. I am excited about the opportunity to get to know and work with many students whom I have not had the opportunity in the past. I will continue to support all students at the Seminole Academy. My mission is to assist them in meeting the rigorous demands that are expected of them to meet the academic requirements placed upon them by the State of Michigan. This year the state of Michigan has a new reading law for third grade students. It is important that you work with your child to ensure that they get support at home and school. All students will continue to be supported in all areas of their education. Teachers are continuing to look at how to align our curriculum, instruction, and assessments. Students will all begin the year by taking several in the classroom assessments that will allow me to discover where they need the most support. We will also be taking the NWEA, an online assessment that will allow us to see where your student is performing in the areas of math and reading. It also allows us to support students in their individual areas of need. This assessment will help our district provide the best education for your student by analyzing student data. Teaching objectives, literacy, and learning standards are still very important. When we return from Spring Break on Monday, April 13 our the MSTEP assessments will begin. This is a very important state test. Teachers are working very hard to assist in preparing your student for this assessment.
